Riffling: Enhancing Reading with Artificial Fixation Points
Riffling is a Chrome add-on developed by julien.wut that aims to improve the reading process by implementing artificial fixation points. It is based on the "Bionic Reading" method, which guides the eyes through the text by highlighting the initial letters of words. By doing so, the reader's focus is directed towards these highlighted letters, allowing the brain to effortlessly complete the word.
This add-on offers a range of customizable parameters to tailor the reading experience according to individual preferences. Users have the ability to adjust the Fixation, which determines the number of characters per word that are highlighted. Additionally, the Saccades parameter controls the frequency at which words are highlighted. The Opacity parameter allows users to modify the font-weight of the highlighted words, enhancing their visibility.
Riffling also provides options to customize the handling of stopwords, which are words that are considered "not meaningful" for comprehension. Users can adjust the number of stopwords and choose from different behaviors such as removal, underlining, strikethrough, ignoring, or bolding them. Furthermore, the MaxRareWordsFrequency parameter controls the frequency at which a word needs to appear to be considered "very important," and the MaxRareWordsBehavior determines how these words are highlighted, underlined, strikethrough, ignored, or bolded.
With its innovative approach to reading enhancement, Riffling offers users the opportunity to optimize their reading experience by customizing various aspects of the artificial fixation points method.
